Portraits and landscapes by commission.

Douglas Beattie is an Australian tonalist fine artist in oil paints utilizing techniques better known in Australian, American and European impressionist landscape works. He first arrived in Cambodia in 2004 and has lived full time in Cambodia since early 2009.

Mr. Beattie has always been committed to making a real difference to the kingdom's future, drawing on his substantial business and creative strengths to promote Cambodia throughout the world.

Born to a father that was also an artist and having painted since he was a child, Beattie has been a creator of fine art images his entire life. As an accomplished fine artist in Australia, he brings to Cambodia his own unique style of art influenced by Australian impressionist masters the likes of Arthur Streeton and Frederick McCubbin.

Beattie’s most notable portraits from life that have gained substantial international attention include independence leader and the First President of East Timor, Xanana Gusmao. (Xanana Gusmao is known as the 'Nelson Mandela of South East Asia', having for 25 years, battled, suffered and achieved independence for his country under similar circumstances).

A Versatile Artist

Although he excels in portraits Beattie has an equal passion for landscape art. Decades of experience in the Australian bush combined with 16 years of travel throughout Cambodia have given him extraordinary insight to create Cambodian rural scenes that boast incredible depth, tone, atmosphere, light and perspective. Works of art that require great skill and can take up to several hundred hours to accomplish.

Each include up to 40 layers of tones, and every brush stroke mixed from just three primary colors yellow, red and blue. Beattie’s impressionistic fine art skills directly contribute to his spectacular works in fine art photography, being one of only a handful of accomplished fine art photographers in the world that also excel in fine art painting.

His portrait from life of Sara Henderson, international best selling author, Australian business woman of the year (twice), Australian outback icon and representative of Breast Screen Australia has also gained substantial international attention. Sara Henderson died from cancer shortly after this portrait was painted.

His company   Wild Cambodia Press   and his photographic products have promoted Cambodia throughout the world since 2009 contributing greatly to Cambodia’s tourism development and economy.

Beattie’s artworks hang in private collections anywhere between Australia and Switzerland. His photographic products including his book ‘ My Cambodia ’ cover the globe.
